The Internet is an important invention for the world and one that our kids fully want to exploit. However there are certain dangers with this, if you understand the online dangers to your children, you can then protect your kids from coming to any harm.

Watching Your Child Online

Social networking websites are becoming increasingly popular among children of all ages. Consider the information on a child’s social networking profile. Do you want people to see half naked pictures of your child? Do you want teachers or potential employers to see your child half-naked? This leads to one of the more serious and heartbreaking dangers of the internet, the threat from paedophiles and other people who want to hurt or take advantage of children online. Because you can’t see the person talking to your child in chat rooms, via instant messaging systems, or through social networking websites, you can not be sure what they look like. A lot of men and women use the Internet as a way to lure children out to meet them. If your child has photographs of themselves on the Internet, then adult males and females may use these for things you don’t agree with.

It is important you monitor the messaging programs your child is using. This is how children communicate with one another, even more so than mobile phone messages these days! You need to keep on eye on this. You don’t want to think your child is doing their homework only to see they’re exchanging pornographic images or illegal downloads. Many children use the Internet as a way of picking on other children, and you do not want to find out that your child has been bullied or is bullying other kids via instant chat and the internet.

Do not think for one minute that identity theft can’t happen to a child. This can affect anyone on the Internet. All it takes is for a child to give their personal information to the wrong person. It can ruin a child’s credit (before they even knew they had a credit rating!) and can be complicated if someone starts breaking the law using your child’s name (i.e. hacking into places using your child’s email account). Likewise, if your child gives out their personal information, it could put you and your family at risk of theft or worse.

One final point to think about is the amount of time that your child spends using the computer. This is worth keeping an eye on. You do not want their whole social world to exist on the Internet. Besides being called a nerd this can lead to isolation and depression, especially to those children prone to social anxiety and the like. A healthy life is about balance and you need to make sure that you’re not letting your children live their whole lives in cyberspace!

One of the most controversial topics on parenting is about imposing discipline on a child. What, exactly, do we mean when we discipline a child? Will it matter to him if the parent disciplines him or not? Some believe that too much disciplining will create a person who will have so many hang-ups later in life, needing a therapist to function normally, and, thus, would impose little discipline. For others, they think that very little disciplining can lead to a person who knows no boundaries, posing a danger to society, and would tend to be very strict. This article will talk about disciplining a child, why it is important, and some tips on effective discipline.

What is discipline?

A lot of people equate discipline to punishment. When they hear of the word “discipline”, they think of spankings, time outs, grounding, and other actions penalizing wrongdoing. Yet, one must remember that the word “discipline” has the same root word as that of “disciple”. Both came from a Latin word meaning “pupil”. Thus, discipline really means to teach or to guide. Punishment may be a form of disciplining, but not the only one.

What are the effects of discipline?

Let us take the game of baseball. Supposing there are no rules in playing the game. There are no strike zones, no outs, or no way to keep scores. How fun will that be? The rules are imposed not to stifle the players but to make the game more enjoyable. Without the rules, players may not even have the motivation to hone their skills.

This is also true with discipline. By imposing rules and boundaries according to the child’s age, he can develop self-discipline, helping the child to grow up happy and well adjusted.

Some tips on effective discipline.

1. Rules must be clear to the child.

Going back to our example of the game of baseball, what if the batter does not understand why a certain pitch is called a ball, while another is called a strike. Without this understanding, the batter will swing his bat with every pitch, even if the ball is way above his head.

Rules that are vague to a child will only lead to frustration. Talk with your child when putting limits. Be sure that your child understands what is expected of him when a situation occurs.

2. Be consistent.

What if the distance between the first base and the home plate is varied every time a batter comes up to the plate? Worse, what if the base is moved while the player is running towards it?

By being consistent, a child learns that certain actions will result in a predictable consequence. The child will learn self-discipline, for he will know what actions to take, or not take, if he wants to have, or avoid, a certain outcome.

3. Provide positive feedback.

Actions that are rewarded get repeated. Unfortunately, there are some children who think that being noticed by a busy parent is a form of reward. The child may behave badly, even risking punishment, just to get the attention of his parent. Therefore, be sure to reward good behavior. A simple “thank you”, a kiss, or even a little smile may be enough feedback.

Remember, to discipline your child is to teach him how to grow up happy and secure. He will not see your disciplining as punishment; rather, he will look at it as a sign of love

There have become more single parent tips over the past twenty years. There has been an increasing number of children growing up in a single parent famiy. Society has changed dramatically in the pasy years.

The decisions that involve your family and affect them are determined by how you react to certain situations and how you cope with change. Studies of single parent homes prove both positive and negative effects.

There are positive and negatives to single parent homes. Studies have shown that children of a single parent have a lower self esteem than children with both parents.

Also, Many studies show that single and shared parenting doesn’t have much effect on the well-being of each parent. The emotional well-being of both the child and the parent as well as the dynamics of a parent-child relationship is dependent on how the parent deals with a child.

When it comes to the relationship between a single parent and a child, one of the important positives of this is:

Frequently, both parents do not share the emotions felt by the child. Explaining the situation to the child can help him or her to understand why the separation occurred, and thereby reassure them emotionally.

There will be less tension, towards the parents and others, if the child understands this.

2) You need to spend more quality time together. The discussions leading up to separation and divorce create a lot of tension and often lead to neglecting children. Shouting matches and silent treatment are often perpetrated by both children and parent.

Being a single parent provides a closer relationship between the two. Planning bonding time and vacation time can be a result of this. Having more time would create a calmer family atmosphere.

Connecting with the community can help the relationship between a single parent and their child.

Friendly neighbors are an excellent source of help regarding childcare tips, baby-sitting or help with household chores. Often this creates a great feeling of participation for both the parent and the child, also for the neighborhood too.

4) Out of the box experience to the child- Since the child now shuttles between two separate parents, the child can broaden his/her experiences pertaining to life. The child begins to realize that the world does’nt revolve around him or her, as he gets more of a sense of the things that surround his own life.

5( A feeling of achieving - Giving a child small duties normally leads to a feeling of success. A mood of honesty adds to the sense of achievement with the addition of new responsibilities. Only because a feat had already been done to help out in the household. This will cause the youngster to feel they play a significant role in the family.

=== If your looking for financial assistance then you may be interested in finding out more about grants for single parent.===

6)For single parents it is wiser to prioritize; this will help them to balance life and work When looking for new jobs that will help you take care of your family, new jobs may be needed.

In order to have balance in you life you need to prioritize your schedules, school and financial obligations. There are many responsibilities to managing a family and it is difficult to get a good work/parenting balance.

There have become more single parenthood over the past twenty years. There has been an increasing number of children growing up in a single parent famiy. This has happened as a result of a change within our society in recent years.

Families making decisions often find that they are influenced by how a person handles a situation and copes with it. By looking at single parent statistics we are able to understand better the various factors. Being a single parent to children isn’t always easy, there are many challenges that are positive and negative no matter if your raising girls or boys.

Conflicting studies of single parenting show that the effects are positive and negative. Single parenting has been shown, by some studies, to produce children with lower self-esteem, than children that have both parents.

Conversely, there have also been studies showing that shared or single parenting have no effect at all on the well-being or growth of a parent. Depending on the way a parent comfronts a child, and thereself can produce the dynamics of each family, this can help the emotional well-being for both the parent and the child.

Relieving Stress- Being a single parent can cause both the children and the parent to feel stressed.

A lot of times, the emotions of the child are not something both parents feel. Explaining the situation to the child may allow them to understand the reason the separation occurred.

There will be less tension, towards the parents and others, if the child understands this.

The discussions of divorce and seperation led to extra neglection of the children. Shouting matches and silent treatment are often perpetrated by both children and parent.

Having more time to address the needs of children and open communication channels between the two, are some of the effects of being a single parent. This can result in positive bonding discussions and cooperative vacation planning. More time can equal more relaxed family enjoyment.

Connecting with the community can help the relationship between a single parent and their child.

Single parents in need of help can turn to the neighbors for help in caring for their children. Often this creates a great feeling of participation for both the parent and the child, also for the neighborhood too.

4) Out of the box experience to the child- Since the child now shuttles between two separate parents, the child can broaden his/her experiences pertaining to life. The child is able to see that the world does not cater to them and is more self aware.

A sense of accomplishment is felt when you give a child small responsibilities. Because more responsibilities are included the sense of accomplishment is accompanied by a more open feeling. Only because a feat had already been done to help out in the household. This validates the child and makes them feel like a vital part of the family.

=== If your looking for financial assistance then you may be interested in finding out more about grants for single parent.===

6) Prioritize to achieve balance of work and life - Practice this key skill for successful. Sometimes it’s just as simple to look for new ways to support the family.

One must learn how to balance school, schedules and financial responsibilities if they want work and life to flow as one. Achieving a work life balance is an unending challenge to the parent, because of the extra responsibilities of running family life.

7) Active decision making - Single parents foster decision making skills in their child through providing them an active role in family life choices. Parents who are single often need helpin making big life decisions.

There have become more single parenting tips over the past twenty years. There has been an increasing number of children growing up in a single parent famiy. Society has changed dramatically in the pasy years.

Depending on a persons reactions on particular situations, and how one behaves with changes have had a impact on families today. Like anything else in life, there are pros and cons to being a single parent.

There are positive and negatives to single parent homes. Studies have shown that children of a single parent have a lower self esteem than children with both parents.

There is no difference between a single or shared parenting style when it comes to being a well adjusted parent. The emotional well-being of both the child and the parent as well as the dynamics of a parent-child relationship is dependent on how the parent deals with a child.

Relieving Stress- Being a single parent can cause both the children and the parent to feel stressed.

Most of the time the feelings of the children aren’t felt by either parent. Explaining the situation to the child can help him or her to understand why the separation occurred, and thereby reassure them emotionally.

Communication with a child can help them understand the present situation, as well as help them to release stress they carry toward their parents as well as other people too.

The discussions of divorce and seperation led to extra neglection of the children. Parents and their kids often are engaged in screaming matches and not speaking with one another , as different perspectives clash.

Having more time to address the needs of children and open communication channels between the two, are some of the effects of being a single parent. Making plans for a vacation as well as bonding meetings with one another can be a result of this. If we had more time we would have more time to be in a relaxed family atmosphere.

Re-connecting with the community- Both kids and their parents can team up and bond with their community thanks to this effect of single parenthood.

Single parents in need of help can turn to the neighbors for help in caring for their children. This frequently results in a positive feeling of involvement on not only the parent and their child, but also the neighborhood.

4) Out of the box experience to the child- Since the child now shuttles between two separate parents, the child can broaden his/her experiences pertaining to life. The child is able to see that the world does not cater to them and is more self aware.

5) Feeling accomplished- When children are given a small number of responsbilities, they will generally feel a sense of accomplishment. A mood of honesty adds to the sense of achievement with the addition of new responsibilities. The reason is that a job has been performed to help the family. This validates the child and makes them feel like a vital part of the family.

=== If your looking for financial assistance then you may be interested in finding out more about single parent grants.===

6)For single parents it is wiser to prioritize; this will help them to balance life and work When looking for new jobs that will help you take care of your family, new jobs may be needed.

In order to have balance in you life you need to prioritize your schedules, school and financial obligations. Achieving a work life balance is an unending challenge to the parent, because of the extra responsibilities of running family life.

7) Allow children to participate in decisions. All parents especially single ones need caring thinking minds to help with making major decisions.

Richard Roeper recently came out in support of our efforts to protect children from violent content shown on publicly viewable in-flight films. “I have to agree,” Roeper said in his TV commentary, “the content in (airline) movies is sometimes too violent.” Roeper would prefer not to see legislation on this issue and instead has called on the Studios to “be more judicious in their editing,” and to “cut the violent content.” We couldn’t agree more and welcome Mr. Roeper’s support.
